Summary of meeting held October 15, 2004
PRESENT: Laurie Solaas, Linda McGee, Mike Lenahan, Mike
Yarborough, Gwen Seng, Deacon Werner Rose, Velera Faison and Suzanne
Johnson
This Diocesan Charismatic Service Committee Meeting, held
at Holy Spirit Church, began at 7:15pm and concluded at 9:10pm. Suzanne opened
with prayer and song. Velera
Faison read the minutes from the previous meeting on July 16, 2004.
Mike Lenahan moved to approve.
Mike Yarborough seconded this motion.
All unanimously
approved.
Linda reported $190.23 in the treasury as of October 15,
2004.
Deacon Werner Rose discussed setting up a committee to
establish DSC By-Laws.
Laurie and Mike Yarborough said they would be on this committee to
assist.
Laurie gave the Communication chair report and decided to
get out the newsletter as soon as possible.
As far as distribution, it was discussed that the first month the
newsletter would go out on paper and the 2nd and 3rd month it would go out as
the e-newsletter.
Gwen Seng discussed an idea of the prayer group leaders
taking up a collection each time from the active members of the prayer
group. Mike Yarborough mentioned sending a representative from
the committee to each prayer group for a
donation.
Mike Lenahan gave the Activities chair report and
discussed the weekend retreat with Father Capuci on Dec. 3rd and
4th. The
talks would be on how the Spirit works in our life and growing in the gifts of
the Spirit. Mike
also mentioned forming a committee to assist with this retreat.
The committee would get notices to parishes and Laurie will put out a
flyer and get information to the West Tennessee Catholic.
Suzanne and Velera said they would help on this committee. First
Committee Meeting will be October 20, 2004 at 7pm at Mike Lenahan's house.
Suzanne mentioned that an anonymous person paid for Father Capuci's
plane ticket.
Objectives for the coming year were discussed in regard to
the following goals: growth, communication and respect.
Under growth, Mike Lenahan mentioned he would like to see more
spirit-filled meetings with the prayer groups, having Life in the Spirit twice a
year and finding good speakers that are charismatic, spirit-filled and in
compliance with the magisterium of the Church.
Mike Yarborough mentioned reaching out to the teens in a Life in the
Spirit for teens. Laurie mentioned more of an explanation at the charismatic
masses.
Under communication, it was discussed that Suzanne and Deacon
Werner Rose would make contact with the prayer group leaders by composing a
letter to be sent out by U.S. mail.
Under respect, Mike Lenahan mentioned being honest to what the
Renewal is to mainstream Catholics, make ourselves known and to be hospitable
and not pushy. Laurie mentioned working more closely with the Diocesan
Office. Laurie and Mike Yarborough mentioned having articles in
West Tennessee dispelling the myths of the
Renewal.
Gwen Seng brought up some new business in regard to the
disposition of liturgical articles used by the Renewal and in the keeping of the
Sengs-History of the Renewal and scrapbooks.
Liturgical articles will go to Father Ernie and if there are
any left they will go to the Diocese. Any blessed glass items can not be used
and will have to be broken and buried. Scrapbooks/ past history to be turned
over at a later date.
There was a discussion of the DSC Retreat.
Father Fisher would be willing to conduct a retreat in Huntington for
us on a Saturday of our choice.
We come up with a topic for the retreat. It is free and is 2 hours
from Memphis. October 30, November 6 and December 11 are possible
dates. Father Fisher will have to get back with us on a firm
date. We discussed inviting anyone interested in being involved with the
Diocesan Service Committee.
We discussed starting next Service Committee Meeting at
7:15 to allow for the reposition of the Eucharist at 6:45pm.
Suzanne moves to close the meeting and Gwen
seconded. Meeting
adjourned at 9:10pm.
Next Meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 19,
2004.
