Summary of meeting held July 15, 2005

PRESENT: Joe Solaas, Laurie Solaas, Mike Lenahan, Helen Lenahan, Werner Rose, Provie Rose, Velera Faison, Linda McGee and Suzanne Johnson.

The meeting was opened at 7:15pm.

Secretary Report

Velera Faison read minutes from May 20, 2005 meeting. Joe Solaas moved to approve minutes. Helen Lenahan seconded motion.  All approve minutes.

Financial Report

Linda McGee reported that the financial report was the same as previously stated in the May meeting.  We have $40.59 in the bank before the addition of Pentecost money.

It was previously suggested that we give $25.00 to Deacon Larker and $40.00 to St. Ann Church

Communication Report

Laurie Solaas sent e-mail out to everyone on the Family Life in the Spirit.

Activity Report

Mike Lenahan commented on the Family Life in the Spirit seminar. Mike mentioned Father Leonardo Polinar was great in pointing out what the Charismatic Renewal is.  Mike was impressed with the music and good food provided by our Filipino community.

Mike Lenahan mentioned that we need to continue to incorporate all 3 groups: Anglo, Hispanic and Filipino in our future gatherings.  Mike mentioned the possibility of a Charismatic Mass with all three groups led by a Charismatic priest after summer is over. 

Helen Lenahan talked of taking our DSC meeting to the Hispanic or Filipino groups to be in communication with them. 

Werner Rose mentioned the possibility of having someone from the Hispanic or Filipino group to co-chair the Diocesan Service Committee Meeting.

Helen Lenahan mentioned Father Matthew Joseph did not intend for a parish wide Life in the Spirit to be held at St. John's, but does wants to open St. John's church up to future functions. 

"Alive in the Spirit" Report

Helen Lenahan moved to have the Alive in the Spirit open to everyone.  None approved.  It was discussed that the Alive in the Spirit to be held on August 6^th and 7^th will be for DSC and Leaders only. 

Report on "One-sentence definition of the Renewal"

Laurie Solaas said "A Charismatic person is a person who is open to the Holy Spirit working in him to draw others to Christ" and "The Charismatic Renewal is about Pentecost; a new Pentecost for the Church and a personal Pentecost for the individual"

Mike Lenahan said "New Life through the guidance and charisms of the Holy Spirit"

New Business

Suzanne Johnson will ask the West Tennessee Catholic to put an article in on the Charismatic Renewal.  It was mentioned about putting pamphlets out in the churches on the Charismatic Renewal, but will have to get permission from parish priests.

Mike Lenahan moved to approve that August 27^th we will have a Charismatic celebration at Holy Spirit Church at 7:30pm. Joe seconded motion.  All approved.

We will have Praise & Worship followed by a potluck in the Batson Center.  It will be a multi-cultural gathering.  We will invite Father Kirk and recognize the officers at the gathering.  Werner Rose will work on a special recognition of the officers. Laurie Solaas will look into doing flyers in all three (3) languages for this event.  All present are in favor of doing flyers for the gathering.  It was discussed of possibly doing an insert in the church bulletins.  Werner Rose will get approval of our use of the Church and Batson Center.

Helen Lenahan mentioned she will have information at our August 27^th gathering on a Born in the Spirit seminar.

It was mentioned that September 28-30 there will be a renewal week at Resurrection Church.  Helen Lenahan will talk to Father Ernie about doing a Born in the Spirit as a follow up to the renewal week at Resurrection possibly in October.  It was discussed that we may need permission from the Bishop to do a Born in the Spirit.  Helen will compose a summary letter of the Born in the Spirit for Werner to present to the Bishop. 

Upcoming conferences are Nashville July 22-24 and Arkansas July 29-31

The next Diocesan Service Committee Meeting is scheduled for August 19, 2005 at 7:15pm.
