Terms--

-------

1.      "DSC" will refer to the "Diocesan Service Committee".

2.      "CCRM" will refer to the "Catholic Charismatic Renewal of

         Memphis".

3.      First names of Officers will be used.

Those present were:  Carlene Inzer, Mike Yarbrough, Doug Scanlan, Jan Courtney, Mike Lenahan, Velera Faison, Helen Lenahan, Suzanne Johnson, and Deacon Werner Rose.

Carlene opened the meeting with prayer and some songs.

Minutes from the June 15 meeting were read and approved.  (There was no meeting in July.)

Carlene opened discussion of the web site.  Mike said that he and Joe (Solaas) were still in the process of switching it over.  Jan asked about having a slide show on the site, and Suzanne asked about music, and Mike said they would look into those things at the new site.

Treasurer's Report:

Velera reported on expenses to the West TN Catholic for ads for the Queen of Peace retreat and stipend to Fr. Ben Bradshaw for the July 27 Mass, and monies given in the collection at that Mass.

After discussion about the possibility of Diocesan backing for the Renewal, we discussed retreat costs, comparing the Queen of Peace, Cursillo and the Little Rock Conference.  Carlene reported that if we want to have another retreat of our own next year, we have to let Sr. Eileen Fucito know soon, as time slots are already filling up.

Communications Report:

Jan reported that she wrote an article for the WTC about the Charismatic Retreat in Dancyville, and articles about the upcoming "Alive In the Spirit" Seminar.  She also sent e-mails about the seminar to those with e-mail and mailed flyers to those without e-mail.

Activities Report:

Mike Yarbrough reported on the July 27 Mass at St. Ann, and asked about plans for future Masses.  It was decided to have a Mass on Friday, September 28; location to be determined by Mike's committee, consisting of Jan, Mike L. and Doug Scanlan.

Second Saturday Praise and Worship Adoration:

Suzanne reported that, on August 10, every seat in the chapel was taken.

Alive in the Spirit:

Helen reported that her committee firmed up plans for the Seminar, to be held Friday evening, Aug. 24, and 9-5 Sat., Aug. 25, at Madonna Hall, St. Ann Bartlett.  She has called the Poor Clares in Frayser and Mother Nadine's Intercessors of the Lamb to pray for the seminar, and asked Velera to send stipends to both.  The DSC decided on $25.00 each.

Alive in the Spirit participants will be invited to keep in touch and fellowship at  follow-up pot luck suppers with Praise and Worship on the 3rd Sunday of each month.  Two suppers have been set for Sept. 16 and Oct. 21 in Holy Rosary's Family Room at 5 P.M

Born of the Spirit:

Helen said that she would like to present a "Born of the Spirit" seminar in early November, possibly at St. Francis Church.  She will talk to Terry Harvey and Msgr. Buchignani about it.  Helen is open to having "Alive" and "Born" seminars regularly, but she will need a committee of facilitators and presenters, and each will need a training booklet. She asked the DSC to pay for the booklets.  She also hopes to have the seminars included in the Institute for Liturgy and Spirituality schedule.

National Catholic Charismatic Conference, Meadowlands, NJ:

Werner reported that he and wife Providence attended the conference  June 22-24.  The speakers were excellent and they brought back CDs of the talks.  He invited us to come to their home on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 3-4:30 P.M. to listen to Fr. Groschel's talk.  He also mentioned that, while at the conference, they attended a "one-day crash course"  Life in the Spirit seminar.

New Business:

Carlene reported that Dr. Sandy Martinez from Campbell Clinic wants to bring in an elderly man from Chicago who has a healing ministry.  Dr. Martinez has ministered with him and will pay his transportation to Memphis.  Helen asked about the man's credentials; the man apparently has credentials from the Arch-Diocese of Chicago.

Carlene also suggested that we try to get Sr. Linda Koontz, as she was a favorite at the Arkansas Conference.  Helen said that she would contact Sr. Linda.

It was also mentioned that Knick and Sandy Knickerbocker would be open to giving the DSC a retreat, possibly on a weekend.

Coming up:

  1. Jean Carr will be giving the HEART TO HEART LISTENING CLASSES at OLPH on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30, beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day.
  2. Nashville will be hosting the National Leaders' Conference again in 2008.
  3. Sister Breige will be speaking at the New Orleans Conference in April, 2008.

Helen said a prayer for healing in the Renewal and in the DSC, and read a prayer card for healing from Bob Canton ministries.  Mike Y. moved to adjourn; Jan seconded; meeting was adjourned with a prayer and a blessing from Deacon Werner, who presented "Crosses of the Renewal" to DSC officers.

Respectfully submitted, Suzanne Johnson (for Joe Solaas)
